Disposable wine glasses are a must if you are serving wine and using disposable dishes. Wine is kind of classy, and serving it from red Solo cups just doesn't do it justice.
Wine glasses are a bit expensive to use in a large get together, and washing them is quite a task. These facts make fancy disposable glasses a logical choice for entertaining that will save you both time and money.
Wine glasses are available in both stemmed and stemless in disposable plastic, reusable hard plastic, and reusable acrylic. They differ in quality. If you entertain often, you may want to consider reusable versions with the understanding that takes away the advantage of not having to wash them.
Disposable glasses can be found in small quantities or in bulk. Buying in bulk will save you a bit of money if you need multiple glasses for an event. They are perfect for wedding receptions, business dinners, and other events with a lot of guests. There are many versions to choose from with different qualities and price ranges.
Pay attention when buying wine glasses in the disposable
version. Some say something like
"requires assembly". This
means that the stem of glass is a separate piece that snaps onto the
glass.
If the "snap" is good, they won't be a problem, but in many cases, the stem will fall off which can be a mess waiting to happen.
I prefer the one-piece version. They are a bit more expensive, but really on average, they are a dollar a glass.
It is worth it to me to spend a bit more to ensure that the glasses are sturdy and won't cause guests any embarrassment when the stem falls off and the wine goes all over the table, or worse, all over their clothing.
Another way to avoid such misfortunes is to use stemless glasses. They are stylish enough to serve wine from, without the potential stem problems. If I couldn't find, or couldn't afford the one-piece version, I would go for stemless. Stemmed glasses just seem to go with wine, so doing away with stems all together wouldn't be my first choice.
Disposable dishes are wonderful for entertaining. They are less expensive than "real" dishes and the main advantage is the time saved in clean up.
There is quite a variety of disposable wine
glasses to choose from of various qualities and price ranges. The best to you in choosing the style that is
perfect for your event.
